Music Together of Assabet Valley - Registration for Winter 2009

Registration for winter classes is now open. Classes will begin the week of January 5. Please check out the classes page to preview times and locations.

The winter program starts the week of January 5 and will feature the Bells collection. There will be no classes on Monday, January 19 (Martin Luther King Day) and no classes during the week of February 16 through February 21 (school vacation).

We offer music classes for children newborn to age five with the adults who love them! Approximately twelve children and their parents or caregivers (nanny, babysitter, grandparent, etc.) meet for ten weekly 45-minute classes to experience new songs, chants, movement activities, and instrumental jam sessions. Both children and adults join in the circle, led by a teacher with early childhood and music skills. The teacher helps adults understand how to participate--regardless of musical ability!--and adults learn the importance of relaxing and enjoying the activities with their children.

In class, children have many opportunities to create and play--making up rhythm patterns, new words to songs, movements to express a sound. Some will simply stare and "study" the experience, as they absorb the musically rich environment. Others will sing, play, and dance freely because they are in a comfortable, encouraging environment. A dozen experiences are included in each class, ranging from playful free-movement to singing in unusual tonalities and meters.

The enjoyment doesn't stop when the class is over. Each session, families receive a new recording performed by outstanding singers and instrumentalists, along with a songbook full of pictures and activities to enjoy at home.

Pre-registration for families registered for fall 2008 classes will be in November. Registration for the general public will open December 1. The Winter session will begin the week of January 5 and will run for ten classes. There will be no classes on Monday, January 16 (Martin Luther King Day) and the week of February 16 through 21 (school vacation week).
